Nebraska begins Big 10 play this weekend, hosting the University of Illinois to Memorial Stadium. The Fighting Ilini are 3-1 in 2014 with their lone loss to the Washington Huskies. The Huskers had a strong showing last week, coming back on the Miami Hurricanes and dominating in the fourth quarter. The Huskers running game is really clicking this year, ranked 7th nationally and averaging 329 yards per game.

We appreciate everyone who showed up at Third Base Northwest last weekend. We had a fine crowd cheering on the Huskers. This is another late game for Nebraska this Saturday, which seems to be the theme for this season.

We are looking for help at our Watch parties. We need fans willing to coordinate our activities at the South Park locations. It only takes a bit of effort during the Watch Party.  This includes Sign In, Raffle, Board Sign Up, and maybe Half Time announcements when required. We take care of everything else (sending newsletters, maintaining email list, etc.). It is a great way to meet your fellow fans and get in a bit of practice at addressing a crowd. Your help would really be appreciated and you will have the thanks of your fellow fans. Up North we can use help to fill in for core members who may be traveling on some weekends. We all have busy lives in addition to our loyalty to the Husker Nation.

Next week's game (October 4) is at 7:00 pm as the Huskers play at #9 Michigan State. The following week is a bye week for Nebraska. We had hoped to have our annual picnic that weekend, but schedules of some core members will not allow. We plan to reschedule this for sometime next spring while the weather is still very pleasant.

The Husker pre-season is over. The meat of the schedule begins this Saturday. Miami comes into the game at 2-1 losing to Louisville in their season opener. The Huskers, explosive last weekend, will need to have a good game in Memorial Stadium to stay unbeaten before beginning the Big 10 part of the schedule next week.

HUSKER WATCH PARTIES CANCELLED! #Huskers #GBR #COTNgbr

I apologize for the late notice. Third Base South Park informed me that because they were showing the boxing match tonight, they would have a problem seating our fans and may not have video screens available for the game. They also indicated that they would be charging a cover due to the fight coverage.

I met with the manager at Third Base NW. He indicated that he could accommodate our group as planned but said crowding would be extra heavy due to the weather. The original plan was to place the fight fans outside with a projection screen. With the current wet weather, the outside parking lot area may not work.  We are also competing with Texas and Texas A&M games in the same time slot.

For both these reasons, I felt it was important to notify everyone as soon as I knew the situation, so you can adjust your plans. Locally, the game is being shown on CBS Sports Network. This is a cable network, so the coverage may not be available to all.  CBS Sports Network Channels available:

You can likely catch the game on a screen at Third Base NW. Husker fans will not be charged a cover. No guarantees at Third Base South Park.

Depending on crowd size, we plan to have our halftime raffle, the "Board", and Big Red merchandise available for sale.  This is a very late start and as such we will be competing with a number of other games and events(boxing match). We have a reserved area but it could be crowded. Please share tables if you have space available.

Hopefully the Huskers have learned from last weekend's close call. We can't count on Ameer Abdulah for last minute heroics every week. We lost a few positions in the polls this week due to the close call. Nebraska is currently a 10 point favorite.

We plan to have our halftime raffle, the "Board", and Big Red merchandise available for sale.

The Nebraska season looked on solid footing during last week's game vs Florida Atlantic. The offense looked versatile, while the defense was quick to the ball giving up only one touchdown. Jordan Westerkamp once again provided an ESPN Highlight moment with his behind the back reception.  Injuries were minimal. Randy Gregory likely won't play this weekend, but could be available if needed. There currently is no line on the game.

We had great turnouts at both locations last weekend. Great enthusiasm up North and our best turnout ever down south (69 Husker Faithful). As we are really just cranking up the support down south, we could use some additional volunteers. We are bringing material in from Nebraska for the South location that may not be available this weekend. We will have the football pool for this game.
