Let's hope your Halloween doesn't get off to a scary start Saturday morning, as the Huskers face the Purdue Boilermakers. Perhaps the Blackshirt defense can live up to their skeletal persona and put some fear into the Purdue offense. The Boilermakers trail the Huskers statistically including their record of 1-6, 0-3 in the Big 10. But as we have been seeing all season long, the Huskers have been playing up or down to just short of the day's competition. It likely will be another rainy Saturday in Austin, somewhat like last week, so a good time to join us at our watch sites to cheer on the Huskers. This is an early game, kicking off at 11 am, so it won't interfere with your Halloween celebrations.

Good news from our newly organized second watch location, the Waller Creek Pub House. Those who attended found it to be very much what they were looking for. If you prefer this part of town (just off 6th), go by and check it out. We have room to grow there and appreciate everyone who attends. Nice to see a Husker win by a wide margin last weekend. Time to see more of that. This week the Northwestern Wildcats come to Lincoln for Nebraska's next game. Early predictions show the Huskers to be a favorite. Good chance of much needed rain here in Austin, but the forecast for Lincoln is sunny. Be nice to see the Husker outlook to be sunny also. The Wildcats are 5-2 so far this season and 1-2 in the Big 10. Defensively, Northwestern has performed better than the Huskers this season. Offensively, the Huskers have gained more yards. Should be a great match up.

Big Announcement: We have partnered with Waller Creek Pub House to host an alternative watch location for those of you that have been requesting a downtown location. The Waller Creek Pub House is located at 603 Sabine Street, a half block north of 6th street very near I-35. They will have an area reserved for our group just to the right as you enter the front door. There will be drink specials along with a selection of bar food.There is a paid parking lot just around the corner to the north. Check it out if this is what you have been looking for. If you attend at this location, please send us feed back on your experience.

We will be holding our regular party at Third Base Northwest and likely will have a raffle, plus the board with a chance of winning cash. Our Husker merchandise will be available for sale. The Third Base Staff will be there to serve your food and beverages.

This year's Huskers may set a record for the most close loses. Like to see that trend change this weekend. Nebraska has now lost four games either within the last 15 seconds or in overtime. (It's also lost all four games by a combined 11 points.) This week, Nebraska travels to Minneapolis to take on the Golden Gophers. Minnesota is 4-2 this season with a Big 10 win at Purdue and a loss to #16 Northwestern. The predictors see this as a close game. Let's hope not close like last weekend. If you ignore the won/loss record, Nebraska's offense is preforming better than Minnesota. However, Minnesota's defense has fared better than the Huskers. The Golden Gophers have won the last 2 seasons and it is time to see that streak terminated.

The Huskers need to come with a plan for closing games out. Way too many last minute losses. This week's opponent is not looking as strong as first indicated. Last week they lost the game to Iowa, 6-10. This brought their record to 3-2 that also included a loss to Alabama. Their wins have been dominant but against weaker opponents. The 2 offenses closely align, but Wisconsin has had a better defense.  The Huskers are back at home needing to get the offense back on track after the performance last week in a very disappointing effort. The official line on the game predicts the game to be very close, likely due to the Huskers playing at home in Lincoln.

After making last weekend's game more exciting than it needed to be, The Huskers travel to Champaign, Illinois this weekend to take on the Fighting Illini. Illinois, 3-1 this season, is coming off a close (27-25) win over Middle Tennessee last week. This is Nebraska's first Big 10 game of the year. The schedule gets more difficult starting with this game. Nebraska is currently a 7 point pick to win. Fullback Andy Janovich had a breakout performance last weekend, giving a lift to the Husker offense.. The defensive numbers need to improve this week after giving up 447 yards of passing to Southern Mississippi. Saturday's weather looks breezy(20 mph) with a 20% chance of rain and a high of 60 degrees.
