After last week's tough loss at Minnesota, the Huskers return home for their next Big 10 assignment, Northwestern. Northwestern opened the season with 4 wins, but now have 4 straight losses in the Big 10. Their most recent loss was to Iowa, and they also lost to Minnesota the week before. Nebraska still needs a win to become Bowl Eligible. After last week's loss, the Husker coaching staff and the team have plenty to work on.

For those of you that attended one of the first 2 games at Third Base Northwest and experienced the crowded conditions, the last few weeks have been much better, with plenty of seats available.

We are looking for anyone that may be driving to a game in Lincoln in the near future to transport some merchandise back for us. Please let us know if you are going that way.

This week the Huskers face the 5-2 Golden Gophers, who are coming off a big win over Northwestern played at Northwestern. Minnesota is averaging 29 points per game while allowing 23 points per game. They are rushing for more yards than passing, 217 vs 118, with Big 10 losses to Iowa and Michigan. Last week's win will give them renewed confidence coming home to face Nebraska. The Huskers can become Bowl Eligible with a win this Saturday. Nebraska should be rested after the bye last weekend. We are back in the top 25 with more opportunities to move up in the coming weeks.

Capital of Texas Nebraskans,

For the first time this season, the Huskers are playing in a state other than Nebraska as they go on the road to play the Boilermakers.  Purdue at 1 and 4 is scoring an average of 17 points per game while giving up nearly 37 points per game. The Nebraska offense has been gathering momentum over the last couple of games, while the defense was much improved last week against a team that had been averaging greater than 40 points per game. The very young Husker defense can't look past this opponent as they continue to gain experience.

We are going head to head against the Texas - OU game this weekend which is starting at the same 11 AM time slot. Come out early for best seating. Third Base will be a good spot to keep up with both games. I do expect a sizeable Texas crowd, so encourage early arrival.

A reminder: The Huskers do not have a game next week on October 19th. They return to action at Minnesota on October 26th.

After a week off, the Huskers return to the field at Memorial Stadium against Illinois to begin the Big 10 schedule. Illinois is 3 - 1 and had a big win last week, 50-14, over Miami of Ohio. Their single loss to #19 Washington was close at 34 - 24. Let's see if Nebraska's simplified offense can be effective this weekend. The defense will have to step up as the Illini have averaged over 40 points per game so far this year. Nebraska has been installed as a 10-point favorite, which means little as the teams take to the field. Please join us for this early in the day game to start off your Saturday.
